Just got back form New Orleans. Saw some really good art but missed Degas' house. Am firing to cone 8 and mixed a bunch of cone 5 clay today. Also finished (?) a larger painting and did an 8 X 10. I am really sweating the March show at the winery. I think going back to cone 5 makes sense since only one glaze is really good at cone 8. The iron red is a really good and reliable glaze though. At cone 5 slip decorating looks better and lighter colored glazes would be better. Also it costs less to fire at cone 5 and the clay contains more Othello clay which tightens it up and adds color. We'll see.

I am really tired. It might be from the covid shot or it might be that I am just tired of the the business of art. We will rehang and rotate art at Gallery Underground on Saturday and Ed and Greg ca

Decided to test my cone 5 clay for water absorption. it weighed 55.5 grams dry. We'll see how much it weighs after being soaked. Also It looked good in that it has sufficient native clay in it, ass

Someone should kick me in the head. For 14 years we mixed clay from powder at Kamiakin High School and it never occurred to me to dry screen Othello clay and dry mix it with Lincoln to make cone 8 cl
